First night in Thailand

August 16, 2011

7/27/11-Our first night in Thailand we originally were just going to stay in the airport overnight and catch our flight the next day. So glad that we didn’t. Being on the plane for 11 hours + 5 hour lay over + another 3 hour flight from the Philippines to Thailand, we needed a shower in a bad way and a place we could lay down flat. Hotel it was!

In the airport they have booths that have hotels you can book from them. Booking from them usually means you will pay more, and since we didn’t know of any hotels around the area we decided to go with them. At  this point I didn’t mind spending the extra cash to get a room for the night. And I’m pretty sure Monica didn’t either.

We spent about 2400 baht or $80 for the night. The good thing about using these guys was they had a free shuttle to the hotel. It even came with a free breakfast. Score! We stayed at the Miracle Hometel in Suvarnabhumi. About 10-15 minutes away. Not a bad hotel, I mean Hometel.  Here is a website to book if ever you’re in Thailand, for an overnight.  It’s a little cheaper than booking at the airport.  http://www.asiawebdirect.com/thailand/bangkok/suvarnabhumi-airport/miracle-suvarnabhumi/

This particular picture looks better than the hotel looked from the outside.
You can see the tub that leaked.  It’s nice looking, right?  Off to the right is the standing shower that didn’t work.
Those are not our bags.  They came with the photo.

Just before getting there we had to go down this alleyway to get there. In the alley, there were dogs. This is interesting to me, because in Thailand dogs are all over the place and they are free to roam around as they please. I equate this to the chickens in Hawaii. They are free range, that’s how I see the dogs in Thailand, free range dogs. Well, just thought I’d share.

We finally arrived at our destination, checked in and went our room. It is a pretty nice room.

The tub is huge, and the only problem is that it leaks, but not to worry, they have a standing shower inside the bathroom also. But neither myself nor Monica could figure how to turn it on. So we decided it was broken, or we were just very tired from the trip and our motor skills were down right non-existent. In any case we took a bath in the tub that leaked. It was heaven!

After we were done taking a shower we headed off to 7-11. Yes 7-11. The things that Thailand has the most of are free range dogs and 7-11. I kid you not. We got some water and sim cards for our phones.  Along the way we ran into about 5 dogs.  From what I understand, dogs are running loose all over Thailand. They are or were originally “owned” by someone. Or, usually fed by someone. Maybe fed by multiple people. Maybe they just exist in the alleys off the main roads by eating garbage and things that fall from kids’ hands. These are called “Soi dogs”.  Here is a great little Org. if you’re ever in Thailand or just plain want to help out.  http://www.scadbangkok.org/.

Alright that ends the first night in Bangkok.  I’ll try and remember dates so you guys will know at what time these post are in the trip.

Arrived in Manila

July 26, 2011

Arrived in Manila after 11hrs on a plane, my tushy hurts! We’ll be here for another 5hrs before heading off to Thailand. Going to try to convince Monica to do a couple of laps around the airport to shake off the flight. With only 5 hrs you can’t really go sight seeing which is ok because the
whether forecast for Manila is rainy. Pretty much in every direction.

Talking with Monica she noted that being from Hawaii give us a strange sense of comfort here in Manila. Everybody looks like people you would see in Hawaii, which I would definitely agree. A little comfort away from home.

Well gotta run, literally! Take it easy till next time.

July 25, 2011

So right now we’re at the airport at our gate just waiting to board! 13 HR flight. My poor butt. I’m not use to sitting more than two hours at a time. Stayed up pretty late last night in hopes of sleeping on this flight, but we shall see. So stoked right now!!!!

Anyways not going to have wifi for a while. So I’ll probably post every thing at once. Have a great day everyone because I am!
